Geology and Mining Reports

Geology and mining information is essential if you do contaminated land appraisals, ground investigations, remediation planning or foundation design. We provide 2 sets of geology maps, one at 1:10,000 scale and the other at 1:50,000 scale and a brand new mining and ground stability report. Read on for further details.

Geology 1:10,000 Maps and Geology 1:50,000 Maps

The Geology 1:10,000 Maps and Geology 1:50,000 Maps provides the fastest, most cost effective means of assessing the geology of your site, which is critical for contaminated land appraisal and foundation design. These maps deliver instant access to current 1:10,000 and 1:50,000 geological mapping from the British Geological Survey for the whole of Great Britain.

The following geological layers are shown in each set of maps:
  • Artificial Ground and Landslip
  • Superficial Geology
  • Bedrock and Faults
  • Combined "Surface geology"

The Geology 1:10,000 Maps and Geology 1:50,000 Maps are sold as an individual components of Envirocheck.

NEW! Mining and Ground Stability Report

The Envirocheck Mining and Ground Stability report is priced from £20 and includes 1.8 million features relating to mining and ground stability from Landmark's unrivalled Historical Land Use database, with access to private archives including Wardell Armstrong brine pumping data for Staffordshire and Droitwich, Brine Compensation Areas and Potential non coal mining areas.

The report is broken down into 4 sections:

  • Mining and Natural Cavities Data - this section features data sets related to the existence of mining areas and their potential hazards, for example BGS recorded mineral sites, coal affected areas, mining instability (provided by Ove Arup & Partners) and shallow mining hazards.
  • Historical Land Use Information (1:2,500) - this section contains data captured from analysis carried out by Landmark on 1:1,250 and 1:2,500 scale National Grid Ordnance Survey mapping and identifies potentially contaminative historical land use. Only land uses relating to mining and ground stability are included. Also included in this section is the Subterranean Features data set which uniquely details man-made and man-used underground spaces, obtained from the Subterranea Britannica society.
  • Historical Land Use Information (1:10,000) - similar to the previous section, this section plots information relating to mining and ground stability from data captured from analysis carried out by Landmark on 1:10,000 scale National Grid Ordnance Survey mapping.
  • Ground Stability Data (1:50,000) - this section consists of the 6 BGS Geosure data sets, each reporting potential hazards up to 250m and plotted onto the 3 separate maps. Also included in this section are the brine and salt mining data sets.
