Historical Mapping
Landmark's digital archive is the UK's largest comprising over 1 million Ordnance Survey historical maps. The historical maps give a complete step-by-step picture of land use changes that have occurred between the 1840's and the present day and are available individually through Promap or as a complete set through our Envirocheck service. Each map is site-centred for ease of comparison and overlaid with the current National Grid so that historical features can be accurately identified and located on to modern mapping. Historical maps are available at scales of 1:10,560/1:10,000, 1:2,500 and 1:1,250 scales.

Case Study - Pell Frischmann
When preparing a recent desk study, Pell Frischmann had initially ordered a Coal Authority report for their site which stated that the site was in a zone of likely influence regarding mineshafts, although none were marked on the accompanying map. An Envirocheck report was ordered and the 1:2,500 Ordnance Survey historical maps brought to their immediate attention the presence of old mining shafts to the south east of the site immediately adjacent. This enabled them to design the site investigation that followed the desk study with the presence of shafts in the area in mind.
The Historical Maps can be accessed online at www.landmarkinfo.co.uk/histmappack when an Envirocheck with Historical Maps is ordered online. Alternatively if you select the email delivery option you will be sent a URL for direct access to your maps.
